Services for Adults with Developmental Disabilities
Ardmore believes that employment is the foundation for self-esteem, a tool to maximize independence, contributes to self-sufficiency and that everyone, no matter how challenged has the capacity to engage in meaningful paid work.
Compared to other organizations dedicated to the needs of the developmentally disabled, Ardmore is small - a real advantage to individuals enrolled in our programs who benefit from more personal attention. Ardmore's smaller size also allows us to be more nimble and fluid to respond to the needs of our consumers.
With this belief in mind, the following supports are provided:
 |
Supported Employment
Ardmore staff provides job development, placement, career development, counseling, supervision, training, and support. Supported employment opportunities are provided on the employers’ job site at such companies as Department of Licensing, Labor and Regulations (DLLR), Budget Deck, Nova Labels, Kirley Signs, Giant Food, Glenn Dale Community Center, as well as many others. We provide support for individuals to obtain meaningful employment in individual and enclave (work crew) positions, and additional training and support to foster professional growth and development. |

Day Habilitation
Through it's work center habilitation program, Ardmore supports adults with developmental disabilities in an industrial employment site. Supports in the center include a combination of sensory stimulation activities, activities of daily living, work, and community activities. Depending on the person’s needs, he/she might take advantage of all or just some of the supports. Work adjustment is a methodology used to develop work skills, good work ethics and work habits, attention to task, frustration tolerance, and ability to relate to supervision. Supported work includes a variety of work opportunities in packaging, recycling, assembly and mail services. |

Residential Services
Ardmore currently supports approximately 50 individuals residing in the metropolitan Washington area. Ardmore operates both one 3-bed Alternative Living Units (ALU) and eleven 4-bed Group Homes. Our residences are single-family homes located in beautiful suburban communities.
Ardmore’s residents are always on the go! Our residents attend weekly social events such as theme parties, dinners, trips, and sporting events. Ardmore residents are encouraged to do their own shopping, join local social organizations, participate in community activities, and even volunteer their time for local causes. They are truly a part of the community. |

CLSA/In-Home Support

Ardmore also provides long and short-term in-home supports to persons living with family, friend or on their own through our Family and Individual Support Services (FISS) program. |

Transportation
Ardmore Enterprises provides transportation to individuals that we support through Metro Access and for a limited number of consumers, through fixed route services. Historically, transportation supports had been solely provided using a fixed route method where our trained drivers provided door-to-door services. As Ardmore moves to full community support, we have a responsibility to increase each consumer’s skills, and to provide assistance in integrating them to use public transportation such as Metro Access. Mobility and travel training may be provided as part of the job coaching or work adjustment training services to meet this goal. Implementation of supports is more individually directed and focused on independence within a person’s community.
Additionally, transportation is provided within residential services for medical appointments, social and recreational outings. These supports are provided using each home’s vehicles and Metro Access. |
